When it comes to PPE (personal protective equipment) most of us could stand to do better. I think most would agree though that the hardest one to wear and most aggravating piece is the dust mask. They are less than comfortable, they itch, they make you sweat and they fog up your glasses making you forego even more PPE. In-steps RZmask. Originally designed for ATV riders combatting trail dust. These masks were designed for style and comfort with out compromising quality. These masks are truly comfortable to wear. The mesh is super lightweight and breathable. They are offered with three different cartridges that filter out different levels of contaminates. For testing I have worn it in multiple environments. Drywall repair, warehouse/fabrication center, yard work, and carpentry/cabinet building. I live in south Alabama and the heat of the summer gets pretty intense. After wearing the mask in the heat of the day for 4 hours straight while cutting grass I was highly impressed. The mask stayed cool and worked exactly as advertised. These come with a variety of filter options for different atmospheres and breathing conditions. There are also three different styles: M1 is the original and is neoprene. This one is recommended for cold weather since the material is wind resistant and not as breathable. M2 this is the summer version and is mesh. It is a single around the neck strap design. M2.5 this is the upgrade to the M2. It features a dual strap that secures it to the back of the head. I would recommend this one over the M2 since it does not rely on the nose bridge to stay up. One major advantage of these is that they are not classified as “respirators”. This means that they can be used in OSHA regulated environments without the aggravation of getting regulator fitted or certified. Another major advantage is the life of the filter. They are rated for 40 working hours. Since this not a disposable mask that means that you crew will only need approximately 1 mask per week, as opposed to 1 or 2 per day.
