Milwaukee 35' Magnetic Tape Measure

Tape measures (TM) we all use them but they don’t all measure up. I’ve had $35-40 ones I have hated and I’ve had $10 ones I have loved. I’ve found heavy duty ones that fell apart and light duty ones I couldn’t break for anything. Every once in a while you happen upon one you love.

My first TM measure love was my craftsman. My dad bought it for me when I was about 9. It was lever style and it lasted several years. They had a no questions asked lifetime warranty that I used probably 10 times over the years up until they stopped making tapes. I still have my last one and I use it on a regular basis.

But craftsman hasn’t made a TM in several years now and I just haven’t been impressed with anyone else. I actually bought a Milwaukee about three years ago and didn’t care for it. Recently my Milwaukee rep came by my shop and was showing me some of their newer products. As he walked around he saw my old craftsman and asked if this was my daily driver. I told him it was because nobody has impressed me in a while with a good TM that was worth the money.

He went out to his car and brought out the new Milwaukee HD magnetic 35’ tape. After showing me the features he left it with me and told me it was a gift.

I was skeptical at first, but was soon surprised. Finally a TM I like. For a tape this thing is feature rich. First of all for a monster tape (I’m used to 25’ers) it fits nicely in the hand. The belt clip is made so it doesn’t tear the pocket off your jeans. Along with the traditional push down thumb blade lock it has a lower cutout so you can “finger stop” the TM with out fear of pinching and cutting. The magnet I will admit is a little weak and could use some beefing up on the 35’ model so that it can hold its own weight. This may not be an issue on the 25’er due to it being lighter. The hook is pleanty large enough to catch most any material with out getting hung on everything you don’t want. I like the fact that the hook turns up too which is handy when using inverted on item such as pipe. Which brings me to my next point. It has markings on the top and the bottom so that you can read it from any angle. On the back side it is also equipped with a 1/8” and 1/4” architectural scale.

I have dropped this thing several times and so far it has stood up to the abuse.

So if you are tired of looking for a solid tape that will last and has all of the features that you want, then I would say that this tape should serve all of your needs.
